LEO, JOSH & NELSON — Three Men. One Weekend. Zero Self-Control.
Josh, Leo, and Nelson were on Team Blue — the alliance that was supposed to band together and take down Bananas and CT. That plan required all three of them to still be in the game. They were not in the game for long.
During a game involving Nelson Thomas, Leo Dionicio used a racial slur. He was disqualified immediately. Gone. First and only season of The Challenge, over in a production decision that took thirty seconds.
Josh Goldstein — not Josh Martinez, an important distinction this franchise has been making for years — then repeated the slur. After watching Leo get removed for the exact same thing. He was also disqualified immediately.
Leo used the n-word. Josh watched Leo get disqualified and then repeated it. The word was bad the first time, Josh.
Nelson Thomas, who was Black and the direct target of both incidents, then confronted Josh — and destroyed the kitchen. This is Nelson's pattern. It is not a one-time reaction, it is a recurring feature. The anger here had context. The kitchen did not survive it. Neither did his spot in the game. He was disqualified third.
Team Blue lost four players in one weekend. A cast of twenty-four dropped to nine at one point. No replacements were added. The alliance that was supposed to finally dethrone Bananas and CT handed the veterans the clearest path to a final they have ever had. CT didn't scheme. Bananas didn't need the tin foil hat. They just waited.
THE WINNERS — Yes, Bananas Again. CT Again. And A Rookie Who Came To Play.
Which brings us to who actually made it to the end. Five competitors win Season 42. Four finish second. The veterans dominate. A rookie makes the final in her first season. And Bananas gets his eighth. His. Eighth.
Lete goes from Deal or No Deal Island to a Challenge final in her first season and finishes second. That is not a storyline. That is a statement. And it is the best story of Season 42 — which will probably get about a third of the airtime it deserves, because the kitchen incident is going to eat up the rest of the season's oxygen.
Leo made a decision that got him removed. Josh made the exact same decision after watching Leo get removed — which is harder to explain, and we will not try. Nelson has a pattern, the context here was real, and he still lost his spot in a game he also deserved to be in. That part is complicated. The kitchen was not.
The opposition self-destructed. Bananas gets number eight. CT gets number six. Tori gets number two. And Lete finishes second in her first season, which is the kind of debut this show rarely produces and never properly celebrates.
That is the season. All of it. You now know everything. You're welcome, and we are sorry, and also you're welcome.
