They Both Wrote STAY. John Aiken Reportedly Sent Them Home Anyway.
They wanted to stay. The experts allegedly wanted them gone. An insider says they'd clashed with production. And somehow, this might be one of the few MAFS couples who actually make it.
Well, this is a new one.
We are very used to watching Married at First Sight Australia couples fight, cry, storm out of dinner parties, threaten to leave the experiment, call their mums from the bathroom… and then write STAY the following Sunday like nothing happened.
That's the MAFS circle of life.
But the 2027 season has apparently decided to try something different.
According to a new report, one couple was kicked out of the experiment by John Aiken, despite both of them writing STAY at the commitment ceremony.
Both. Of them. STAY.
And here's the kicker: they're reportedly still together.
THE CEREMONY — Two STAY Cards. One Expert Who Apparently Had Enough.
According to Daily Mail Australia, as reported by PEDESTRIAN.TV on October 8, the dramatic dismissal happened at a commitment ceremony just weeks before the final.
Both participants reportedly wanted to keep going.
John Aiken allegedly made it clear their time in the experiment was over.
An insider claims the experts no longer believed they could help the couple.
Now, we've seen the experts lose patience before. We've watched John deliver lectures that could make a grown adult feel like they've been sent to the principal's office for writing on the bathroom walls.
But sending home two people who both want to stay?
That's a lot of power for a man holding a clipboard and a concerned expression.
For years, the whole point of the couch was that the couple decides. Apparently, the couch has a veto now.
— Ava WittPicture the moment. Two people flip their cards. STAY. STAY. They look at each other, relieved. Somewhere a cello starts playing something hopeful.
And then John leans forward.
That's certainly one way to end a commitment ceremony.
BEHIND THE SCENES — Was It the Relationship, or the Storyline?
Here's where things get interesting.
The same insider alleged that tensions had been building between the couple and production, because they weren't always willing to follow the direction their storyline was being pushed.
Which raises a rather uncomfortable question.
Were they removed because their relationship wasn't working?
Or because they weren't cooperating with production?
Those are two very different things.
One is the experts doing their job. The other is a couple getting voted off a "social experiment" for refusing to act out the episode someone already wrote for them.
And if that sounds familiar, it should. Earlier this season, MAFS Funny creator Joshua Fox reported that two 2027 contestants had formed their own relationship outside their matches and were pushing back on producers over how their storyline would play out. Another couple reportedly paused filming until they could speak with production.
Is this the same couple? We have absolutely no idea. Nobody has connected the two reports, and neither has been confirmed.
Whether any of these incidents are connected remains unknown. But between reports of contestants pushing back against production and a couple allegedly being removed despite both wanting to stay, MAFS 2027 is raising some interesting questions about who's really calling the shots.
Both reportedly wrote STAY: Reported
Insider claims tension with production: Alleged
Whether that tension influenced the decision: Unknown
Who the couple is: Unknown
Confirmed by Channel Nine or the experts: No
To be clear: we don't know whether the reported production tensions had anything to do with the decision. Neither Channel Nine nor the experts have publicly confirmed the incident.
But if the reports are accurate, it's absolutely worth asking what happened in that room.
THE PLOT TWIST — Kicked Out. Still Together. Possibly Moving States.
Now for my favourite part.
According to the insider, the mystery couple is still together and taking the relationship seriously. They're even reportedly discussing plans to live in the same Australian state.
Wait. A. Minute.
MAFS has given us countless couples who survived the entire experiment, made it to Final Vows, promised each other forever in front of a floral arch the size of a small house… and broke up approximately five minutes after the cameras stopped rolling.
Some of them didn't even make it to the car park.
And now we're hearing that a couple who got kicked out might actually be the one that lasts?
Imagine being expelled from a marriage experiment and still having a better relationship than most of the graduates.
— Ava WittIf this holds up, it would be the most MAFS outcome imaginable. The couple the experts gave up on, quietly doing better than the couples the experts celebrated.
Well. Wouldn't that be something.
THE MYSTERY COUPLE — Names, Please. (Nobody's Talking.)
Unfortunately, their identities haven't been confirmed.
With the 2027 season still filming, there's no official explanation for what happened, and we don't know whether viewers will even see the full confrontation when the season airs. Given the reported production tension, I wouldn't bet my house on that edit being, shall we say, generous.
For now, this remains an unconfirmed insider report.
But one thing is certain: if this turns out to be true, that commitment ceremony is going straight to the top of my must-watch list. Snacks prepared. Phone on silent. Pause button within reach.
MAFS has always told us that commitment ceremonies are about giving couples a choice. Even when one person writes LEAVE, a STAY from their partner can keep them in the experiment for another week. But what happens when BOTH write STAY and the experts reportedly decide they're done anyway?
If the experts can now overrule two STAY cards, and an insider is hinting it might have had something to do with a couple who wouldn't play along with production, then the experiment just got a lot less experimental.
And if that couple ends up being the one that actually lasts? Then the funniest twist of the 2027 season might be that the only way to win MAFS is to get kicked out of it. 🍷
If two people both want to stay, should the experts have the power to send them home? Drop it in the comments. 👇
